
South Metro Human Services offers training for Mental Health Professionals through the South Metro Human Services Training Institute and for the general public through the Education of Family and Friends Training Series.
South Metro Human Services is committed to training Mental Health Professionals in evidence based practices surrounding mental illness and chemical dependency as well as other topics which teach our employees to effectively work with clients in the community. Topics for training include Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Therapy, Interactive Effects of Mental Illness and Chemical Dependence, and many other topics.
For the Community, South Metro Human Services offers the Education Sessions for Family and Friends Series which is open to anyone with an interest in learning more about mental illness. Topics include: mental illness and brain function, mental illness and substance use, Schizophrenia, medications, Harm Reduction, mood disorders, civil commitment, suicide, financial planning, stress management, and "how to help for family and friends." The curriculum, topics and speakers will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. Although mental illness is widespread in the general population, about 6% of the population experiences a serious mental illness such as major depression, panic disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, or post traumatic stress disorder.
